What handmade means here
Every rug in this collection is made by hand, in one of three ways. Hand-knotted: each knot is tied by hand around the warp on a loom. Flatweave and kilim: weft threads pass over and under the warp, so the pattern shows on both faces. Hand-tufted: yarn is punched through a backing with a hand-held gun, in batches.

A machine-made rug is produced by a power loom, with no maker's hand in it. Every rug here is knotted, woven or tufted by a person. Hand-tufted rugs are made in batches, so several rugs of one size can exist at once.

Knotted and tufted rugs are made in Pakistan. Kilims come from Maimana, in northern Afghanistan. We buy direct from the artisan and ship to UK homes, with no middlemen.

Every listing gives its exact size in cm. Leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the edge of the rug. Runners and oversized rugs are listed in the size menu.
