Our Story
The story of Imaco Rugs begins long before the brand itself. The history is rooted in the vibrant streets of Pakistan, where rug-making isn’t just a craft but a way of life.
Our journey started in 1952, when our family entered the world of handcrafted rugs, learning the art of weaving from master artisans who had perfected their skills over generations.
Back then, rug-making was a slow, meticulous process, each knot tied with care, each pattern a testament to patience and precision.
Our ancestors believed that a rug wasn’t just a floor covering but a legacy—something to be passed down, cherished, and admired for years to come. This philosophy became the foundation of Imaco Rugs.
From Pakistan to the UK
For decades, our family worked closely with artisans in Pakistan, preserving the age-old techniques of hand-knotting and hand-weaving.
But as the world changed, so did the rug industry. The rise of synthetic, mass-produced rugs threatened traditional craftsmanship, making it harder for artisans to sustain their livelihoods. Determined to keep this artistry alive, we expanded our vision beyond Pakistan, bringing our expertise to the UK.
Imaco Rugs was born out of a deep love for handcrafted excellence, offering custom, one-of-a-kind rugs that carry the soul of generations past while seamlessly fitting into modern interiors.
The Artisans Behind Every Knot
Behind every Imaco Rug is a skilled artisan whose hands have mastered the intricate dance of weaving. These craftsmen, many of whom come from families who have been in the trade for centuries, pour their heart and soul into every thread.
Unlike machine-made rugs that lack character, our rugs carry the imprint of human touch—subtle variations, personal flourishes, and a story woven into each design.
By working directly with these artisans, we ensure not just fair wages, but respect for their time-honored skills. We take pride in knowing that every purchase helps sustain families, preserve cultural heritage, and keep an endangered art form alive.
Handmade, One-of-a-Kind, Never Repeated
One of the core values of Imaco Rugs is uniqueness. We don’t mass-produce or replicate designs—every rug we create is crafted once and never repeated. Whether it’s a contemporary statement piece or a traditional tribal rug, each one is designed with the belief that a home should reflect the individuality of the people who live in it.
More Than Rugs—A Commitment to Sustainability
Our dedication doesn’t stop at craftsmanship; it extends to the environment. Today, 94% of rugs are made from plastic-based materials like polypropylene, contributing to pollution and waste. We stand against that. By using natural, sustainable materials and time-honored techniques, we create rugs that are not only beautiful but also eco-friendly.
A Future Woven with Purpose
Our journey is far from over. What started as a small family business in Pakistan has grown into a brand that stands for quality, sustainability, and authenticity. But at our core, we remain the same—a family passionate about rugs, about artistry, and about making homes feel more like home.
