What handmade means here
Every rug in this collection is made by hand, in one of three ways. Hand-knotted: each knot is tied by hand around the warp on a loom. Flatweave and kilim: weft threads pass over and under the warp, so the pattern shows on both faces. Hand-tufted: yarn is punched through a backing with a hand-held gun, in batches.

Hand-knotted, flatweave or hand-tufted: what handmade means here
A machine-made rug is produced by a power loom, with no maker's hand in it. Every rug here is knotted, woven or tufted by a person. Hand-tufted rugs are made in batches, so several rugs of one size can exist at once.
Handmade rugs from Pakistan and Afghanistan
Knotted and tufted rugs are made in Pakistan. Kilims come from Maimana, in northern Afghanistan. We buy direct from the artisan and ship to UK homes, with no middlemen.
Handmade rug sizes in cm and feet
Every listing gives its exact size in cm. Leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the edge of the rug. Runners and oversized rugs are listed in the size menu.

Frequently asked questions
Where are your handmade rugs made?
In Pakistan and Afghanistan. Knotted and tufted rugs are made in Pakistan, and kilims come from Maimana in Afghanistan. We buy direct from the artisan.
Do you sell handmade rugs in the UK?
Yes. We are a UK rug dealer, and we ship handmade rugs to UK homes from the makers in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
What size handmade rug do I need?
Measure the space, then leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the rug. A 5 x 7 ft (150 x 215 cm) suits a bedroom, and an 8 x 10 ft (245 x 305 cm) suits a large living room. Every listing shows its exact size in cm.
What is the difference between a handmade and a machine-made rug?
A handmade rug is knotted, woven or tufted by a person. A machine-made rug is produced on a power loom.
Can I get a handmade rug made to my size or colour?
Yes, through our custom rugs. We send a free CAD preview of your size and colours before we make it.
