What is a striped kilim?
A kilim is a flatweave: the weft passes over and under the warp to build the pattern, so there is no pile. In a striped kilim the pattern is built from bands of colour.
Halls and daily use
With no pile to flatten, a kilim takes shoes and daily walking without matting down. For a hall, measure the length first and leave a little bare floor at each end.
How much floor to leave
Leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the edge of the rug. In a living room, the front legs of the sofa and chairs should sit on the rug.
Frequently asked questions
What is a striped kilim?
A kilim is a flatweave with no pile. In a striped kilim the pattern is built from bands of colour, and it shows the same on both faces.
What is the difference between a kilim and a pile rug?
A kilim is a flatweave. The weft is woven across the warp, so there is no pile and the pattern shows on both sides. A pile rug has knotted or tufted yarn standing up from a backing.
Can a striped kilim go in a hall?
Yes. A kilim has no pile to crush, so shoes and daily walking do not mat it down. We list striped runners as well as rugs, and every listing shows its exact size in cm.
Will a sold striped rug come back?
Each listing is one rug. When it sells, that listing closes. A rug of the same design may be listed separately, and it will not match exactly.
