How a Maimana kilim is made
Weavers in Maimana pass weft threads over and under the warp by hand, in wool, until the pattern builds. There is no pile to knot or tuft, so the design reads the same on the back. We buy direct from the artisan and ship direct to you.

What are tribal rugs?
Tribal rugs are woven by village and nomadic weavers, usually in bold geometric patterns.
Kilim or hand-knotted?
Most tribal rugs here are kilims: flatweaves with no pile, where the pattern shows the same on both faces. A few are hand-knotted, such as the Baluchi tribal rugs, and their titles say so.
How much floor to leave
Leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the edge of the rug. In a living room, the front legs of the sofa and chairs should sit on the rug.
