Afghanistan Kilim Rugs TEST
Maimana kilims from Afghanistan, handwoven in 100% wool and flat-woven, so the pattern shows the same on both faces. Because each one is made by hand, no two look exactly alike. When a rug sells, that piece is gone.

We love our absolutely beautiful kilim! Great price and very good communication from Imaco when there was a slight delay due to flooding in Pakistan. Thoroughly recommend.

How a Maimana kilim is made
Weavers in Maimana pass weft threads over and under the warp by hand, in wool, until the pattern builds. There is no pile to knot or tuft, so the design reads the same on the back. We buy direct from the artisan and ship direct to you.

What is a kilim rug?
A kilim is a flatweave. Weft threads pass over and under the warp until the pattern builds up, so there is no pile to knot, tuft or trim. Turn the rug over and the design looks the same on the back.
Kilim runners for halls and stairs
With no pile to flatten, a kilim runner takes shoes and daily walking without matting down. Measure your hall first, and leave a little bare floor at each end so the runner sits square.
Kilim rug sizes in cm and feet
Every listing gives its exact size in cm. Leave about 30 cm of bare floor around the edge of the rug.

Frequently asked questions
What is a kilim rug, and how is it different from a pile rug?
A kilim is a flatweave. The weft is woven across the warp, so there is no pile and the pattern shows on both sides. A pile rug has knotted or tufted yarn standing up from a backing.
Can a kilim go in a hall or on stairs?
Yes. A kilim has no pile to crush, so a kilim runner suits a hall. We list runners from 150 cm to 500 cm long.
What sizes do kilim rugs come in?
From 60 x 90 cm (2 x 3 ft) to 305 x 425 cm (10 x 14 ft), plus oversized rugs and runners. Every listing shows its exact size in cm.
Where do your kilims come from?
Maimana, in Afghanistan. We buy direct from the artisan and ship direct to you.
Can I get a kilim made to my size or colour?
Each kilim is woven as a single piece, so its size is fixed. For a rug made to your size and colours, see our Custom Rugs collection, which starts with a free CAD preview.
